When guitars start to feel a little tired or don’t play quite as smoothly as they should, one of the best ways to bring them back to life is with a fret levelling and crowning. Over time, frets can develop uneven spots, small grooves, or flat areas from constant playing. This can lead to buzzing, dead notes, and an overall lack of comfort.
This week, I’ve got a real treat on the bench — a beautiful ’63 Custom Strat. To get it playing at its best again, I’ll be carefully levelling the frets to make sure they’re perfectly even, and then re-crowning them so each fret has the right rounded shape for smooth, accurate playing.
I’ll be using my new levelling beam from Crimson Guitars, which gives precise results and helps ensure the guitar plays just as well as it looks. Once the process is finished, the Strat will feel more responsive, bend notes cleanly, and deliver the kind of playability you’d expect from a top-quality instrument.
If your guitar is buzzing, fretting out, or just doesn’t feel as easy to play as it once did, a professional fret levelling and crowning could make all the difference. It’s one of the best ways to extend the life of your frets and improve your playing experience.
